Remember Your Baptism

Baptism, for us Lutherans, is a very significant event in our lives. And most of us do not even remember it.  Martin Luther said that each morning we should make the sign of the cross to remember that we were buried and raised with Christ through our baptism.  The washing in the Word for forgiveness, the reception of the Holy Spirit, the connection that is made with the whole community of Faith (in all times and places) gives us a great head start on the faith that needs to grow in us.  Jesus showed us the way.  His baptism was the beginning of his work in the world.  Our baptism is the entrance for each of us into the Church, connected to the whole Church.  God promises to be with us forever… through everything.  Our parents and.or sponsors promise to bring us up in the faith in which we are baptized, and the whole congregation, on behalf of the whole Church promises to pray for us.  At our baptism, we are swaddled in the Holy Spirit for life in faith.  Remember your baptism.  God remembers you.  Read Luke 3:21-22 and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally.
