At the beginning of this Lenten Season I wrote about taking time to renew your relationship with God. I suggested making time to be with God in prayer, in God’s Word, and in whatever spiritual practices are helpful to your relationship a top priority during Lent.
Some have questioned, asking, isn’t Lent a time for repentance? Yes, it is. If you have taken time to renew your relationship with God, then you have turned toward God. That it true repentance- turning toward God. It simply takes the focus off of our actions and puts the focus on God and who God is. It turns our focus from self to God; that is repentance. I hope you’ve taken time for your relationship with God these past few weeks. Jesus modeled the need for time alone with God during his 40 days of praying and fasting in the wilderness before beginning his ministry. Then, he went out and preached, healed, fed, and ministered to those in need.
We are nearing holy week and the conclusion of Lent. Of course, you must continue to take time for your relationship with God, as with any relationship, but our 40 days of concentrated time with God is nearing an end. If you haven’t already, take time today and tomorrow to discern what God is calling you to do. What ministry are you gifted for? What passion do you have? What needs do you see? Talk to God in prayer. Then go out into the world and be the hands and feet of Christ to those in need. Christ said to love God and to love others. It is time to go out actively loving those around us, showing God’s love to this world in need. God be with you and bless you on your journey!
Read Luke 10:25-37, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally!
