Unless you have faith as a little child

We were in the midst of our last minute craziness packing for a big trip in early June when Caroline announced that she had to go to her grandmother’s house. We could finish packing and planning the next day. She gave no explanation and I was a little confused and frustrated. Why, days before our trip was Caroline, who had been looking forward to this trip for months, leaving and stopping preparation when we were running behind schedule?

Later that evening, she and the grandparents came back with my favorite – a home-made apple pie. It turns out that weeks earlier, Caroline had realized that we were going to gone over Father’s Day and she wouldn’t be able to deliver her grandfather and father’s favorite – homemade apple pie.  She had asked her grandmother to teach her to make an apple pie from scratch and help her surprise us. And surprise us she did!

The pie was fabulous and Grammy testified to how much love and precision apple peeling had gone into making that pie. By the end of the evening I felt like Martha to Caroline’s Mary. I was humbly reminded of the power of love and its importance, far above calendars and to do lists.

Read Luke 10:38-42 and Matthew 18:2-4, and remember: God loves you UNCONDITIONALLY!
