One of my favorite hobbies is genealogy. I’m fascinated to look back through the generations, to learn about those who came before me, to glimpse their challenges and joys. Some were visited by success, others by tragedy. As I watch those lives unfold before me on paper, I wonder how my life will look some day in the annals of the family history, or more to the point just how does my life look to the family that surrounds me here in the present?
Do I show patience and care, or does irritation slip in? Am I accepting of their differences and uniqueness, or do I tend to be judgmental? Do I keep them all in my prayers each day, or do I hurriedly “shorten the list” on occasion? Do I love each and every one with all my heart, whether they remain close or lean away?
My imperfections are plain to see – to me and to my family, I’m sure. But I have a wonderful example to follow. Jesus accepts each of us as we come to him; his arms are open to us; he never forgets us! And yes, much to the delight of any genealogist, we are part of HIS FAMILY! Read Psalm 103:17-18, and remember: God loves YOU always and unconditionally!
