Last week I saw a poem written on my daughter, Caroline’s, notebook. This poem both saddens me and gives me hope. It saddens me that there is hatred, prejudice and violence in the world, and that our children and grandchildren have to grow up aware of this, seeing it around them. It gives me hope knowing that my child does not see any sense or reason for this hatred and violence. It gives me hope watching her generation playing together in integrated circles in a way we never did. Although my generation grew up in a society where schools and public services were supposedly integrated, most segregated themselves within those same systems. Today, I see more children, of all ethnicities, playing together, eating together, and laughing together. I pray this continues as they grow into adulthood. I pray the boundaries of division disintegrate.
Caroline said she saw the poem on Google images and copied it down. I searched for it but was unable to find the source. Here’s a photo of her notebook:
Read Acts 10:34-38, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally.
