A Grandparent’s Prayer

It’s been 6 months since we’ve seen our grandchildren. Too long. Especially since they are all under 4 years old, and two of them are under one. That happens when you live states away. Yet somehow there is a real connection, even with the youngest. Is it because their moms and I all have long, dark hair? Or because our mannerisms, laugh, or voices are similar so we seem familiar? Is it because their Mom and Dad love us, or because they’e seen pictures of us and heard our names? Or is it because they somehow know we love them? Or, perhaps its all these things together? I’m not sure, but I marvel at how quickly the babies take to their grandparents and how comfortable they seem around us.

As I hold them in my arms and close to my heart, I pray they become comfortable also in God’s presence and turn to God’s loving embrace throughout their lives. I pray they always have enough, that they know God’s love and peace, and feel God’s presence. I pray they learn to give and love, and work to bring God’s kingdom here on earth.

Read Psalm 139:7-18 and I John 4:16, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally.
