Tomorrow I need to bake a birthday cake — we’ll be celebrating a family birthday! Our oldest son has reached the big “50.” (A fact that apparently sets my age as something well beyond that number.)
I remember so well the day he was born. It was in the early hours of a Sunday morning. Little did we know how the arrival of that little babe would forever change our lives.
Thinking back to those early uncertain days, I don’t think we realized the greatness of God’s blessing. We were focused on the immediate: calming a crying babe, feeding that hungry little mouth, changing and laundering endless diapers. But our loving God had much bigger plans. That quiet little boy would grow to be a student, a University professor, a loving husband and father, and a caring son – all far beyond our wildest dreams. Oh how God blessed us!
A lifetime of blessings later, I see that we still often fail to appreciate God’s gifts to us at the time they are given. As the years go by and our infirmities increase, we focus on our needs: our meds, our docs, and whatever weaknesses each day may bring. Once again we’re fixated on the present moment.
God always has bigger plans. If He has blessed us with all these years, he must have a plan for us, a purpose for each new day, even in our weakness. Oh Lord, we thank you for your continued goodness to us, and we ask that you open our eyes and hearts to appreciate today’s gifts, and to see how we may use today’s blessings to your glory.
Read 2 Corinthians 12:10, and remember: God continues to bestow His blessings upon you, to love you no matter your age. God loves you deeply and UNCONDITIIONALLY!
Judy
