Who does God work through? Am I holy? Are you?

I sometimes hear people speak about “not being worthy.” They think that God doesn’t like them or would be offended by them. I also hear people put down others as if those people are not worthy because they are not perfect, not good enough.
Annie tells the story of one of her Pastor/Mentors who would listen to a church member confess something they felt made them “not worthy,” expecting their confession to be met with disdain. The Pastor would reply. “Oh, so you’re a sinner, too.”
When we look at God working through people in scripture, it’s harder to find “worthy” people God used as leaders. It’s much easier to find people we might deem “unworthy.” Murderers, adulterers, cowards, etc. are all richly represented among God’s chosen leaders.
I don’t point this out to suggest that we take our sinful nature or sin, lightly. I certainly am not suggesting that anyone get a “pass” because they “must be chosen by God.” What I am suggesting is an add on to Annie’s blog, “Called into Relationship” which posted Tuesday (because I forgot to give her the Tuesday blog for this week. Yep, I am a sinner, too).
We are all imperfect people created by a glorious God who calls us in the Old Testament to be co-creators and caretakers of creation. In the New Testament, our gracious God calls us through Jesus to bring in the Kingdom of God, to live in the Kingdom of God now; to follow Jesus’ example of what each of us is capable of, through the Spirit’s power in and through us.
We are holy, you and I. We are holy, and wholly called into Jesus ministry. Love God and love each other – that’s our mission. God loves us just where God finds us. And God loves us too much to leave us where God finds us. God calls us to follow and see the new thing God wants to do for us, do through us if only we will let go and let God. In letting God, loving God, and loving one another, evil is defeated in this world and the next.
Read Luke 17: 20-21, and remember: God loves you UNCONDITIONALLY.
