What does comfort mean to you?

To me, solid comfort is my cozy lounge chair with a snuggly fleece blanket and a compelling book. Maybe I’ll add some soft music and a flickering candle. I’m relaxed just thinking about it. Or it could be my favorite “comfort food” – maybe an old fashioned hot tuna noodle casserole like my mother used to make.
The idea of comfort is a theme of Advent. The prophet Isaiah said “Comfort, comfort ye my people!” Isaiah spoke of a comfort that would come through God’s glorious arrival. And wonder of wonders, the great Comforter arrived in a manger in Bethlehem.

The cozy comforts I find in my home are wonderful gifts to appreciate, but they are fleeting. The book, no matter how intriguing, will end. As for the yummy supper, well my plate will be emptied and the dishes will need washing.

But praise the Lord, His comfort is unending. God’s comfort is there for us when things go well; it’s there when times are tough. We never have to worry about coming to the end of it.

Read Psalm 23:4. Remember God’s comfort and love is here for you today, tomorrow and always. God loves you unconditionally.
