All Things are Possible

In Matthew 19:26 it says, Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  So, then, does that mean pigs can fly?  Well, maybe…  but I don’t think that’s the kind of possibility Jesus was talking about.  In this particular instance, we know Jesus was talking about a rich man entering the kingdom of heaven.  But there are other verses in the Bible which echo this same idea that all things are possible with God.  Sarah could bear a child at age 90, the slaves could be freed from Egypt, the oil and flour didn’t run out on the widow and Elisha during the drought, a virgin could have a child, God can reveal himself in a human baby, people can be healed, and Jesus was resurrected from the dead. These are a few of the things God imagines possible and so they are.

What about peace on earth?  Life after death?  Unity in diversity and diversity in unity?  Love prevailing over hatred and fear and prejudices?  Creation being restored and reconciled with God?  What is our role in all of this?  Can we make a difference?  Can we do anything to help bring peace, unity, love, restoration and reconciliation?  These are the possibilities I believe Jesus meant for us to cling to, hope for, believe in, and act upon.  We must live in hope and act as if it’s possible.  God will use our efforts and energies to bring about the peace and life, love and unity, restoration and reconciliation that God envisions.  With God, these things are possible because God will work through us and can do all things.  It’s not likely to happen overnight but, little by little, we can help bring God’s kingdom to more and more of creation, bringing it closer in line with God’s will.  Read Ephesians 3:14-20, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally!
