Any day can be Christmas!

Sometimes we think of Christmas as Dec. 25th only. As Judy pointed out yesterday, the church season and traditional Christmas carols remind us there’s more than one day to Christmas. I am still thinking about Pastor Wayne’s Sunday sermon that ANY DAY can be Christmas!
Christmas is the day we celebrate Jesus being born. But why was Jesus born? What did God have in mind? One reason God became human was to show us what is possible for humans, what each of us is capable of being and doing. The life of Christ is not something to stand back in awe of because we see Jesus as totally different than us, the ultimate “Super Hero.” It’s something to be in awe of because Jesus’ life, the way Jesus lived, could be OUR life, the way WE live, any one of us.

Seeing Jesus, we know God. Through Jesus and the ongoing work of the Spirit we can become more Christ-like, we can see Jesus in ourselves, and we can see Jesus in others. As we become more Christ-like, and treat others like children of God, others will see Jesus in us, and they will begin to see Jesus in themselves. As disciples, that is what we are called to do– to imitate Christ and to help others to do the same.

That’s it.  No shopping days, no endless parties, no impossible logistics, no calendar count down or opportunities lost due to distance or incompatible calendars. Any day that Jesus is born in our hearts or in the hearts of others we love for Jesus’ sake, that’s Christmas!

Read Ephesians 4: 17-32, and remember that new life is a gift from God who loves you UNCONDITIONALLY!  Merry Christmas for every Christmas Day.
