It’s funny how we sometimes write similar things in our blogs without conferring. Recently, you read Wayne’s rewrite of Clement Moore’s “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Today you get mine.
Searching For Meaning
‘Twas the sixth day of Christmas when all through the town
I was searching for meaning but none could be found.
I put up the lights and decked all the halls
Still, I felt empty with no meaning at all.
I baked and I baked, then I ate and I ate
but no meaning was found in the food on my plate.
I threw a big party and people came by
Yet, I was left with one question- the question “Why?”
There’s that “Jolly Old Man” dressed all in red
waiting for children to climb into bed…
I bought many presents and got some as well
Still, I was wondering: what makes Christmas so swell?
Why all the festivities? Why all the cheer?
What makes some say it’s the best time of year?
Then I heard in a song what this season’s about
And my heart filled with wonder, erasing all doubt.
This season is special because of a child
God, as an infant, makes all the world smile.
Christmas began with a thought from above;
Christmas started out as God’s act of love.
My eyes were opened by the child I adore;
I’d missed the meaning of Christmas before.
As I looked around and saw tree lights gleaming,
I now thought of Jesus and saw a new meaning.
I sat down to eat bread with Havarti
And remembered Christ saying, “This is my body.”
The gifts I’d exchanged were expressions of caring
and I realized that’s the message God’s sharing!
Those gatherings of people that didn’t mean more?
I now see Jesus in others, as never before.
Christmas, it turns out, is a time of good cheer
It’s God’s gift, Emmanuel: God always here.
Read Matthew 1:23, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally!
