I woke up this morning to find it’s the 30th of January. Perhaps not the most heralded day of the year – the calendar boasts no holiday. Even the liturgical calendar offers nothing of note. (Now if today is your birthday or anniversary, then it is indeed a special day for you. Please accept my apologies for referring to the day as “just ordinary”.)
But, thanks to the World Wide Web, I learned that this IS a special day after all. It is National Bubblewrap Appreciation Day! Who knew?
Bubblewrap – one of those little things we take for granted. Yet, we find it in most every package that comes to us through the mail. Back in 1957 two engineers in a New Jersey garage attempted to seal together two shower curtains with the intent of marketing it as wallpaper. Well, that wasn’t very successful, but the product took off as a packing material. The rest is history. And let’s face it, who among us hasn’t had fun popping those bubbles!
OK, I hear you. She’s really gone over the edge with this one!!!
Think about it for one more minute. What is the one quality that makes bubblewrap so valuable to us? It protects. It wraps your treasures and protects them. It can surround any object of any size or shape. With bubblewrap securely in place, your package survives the thumps and bumps of the delivery system.
Don’t you wish we had a bubblewrap for people? A nice protective wrap that would buffet us from the knocks and bruises of life? A layer that would shield us, so that when we fell hard we would not break.
Maybe we do. We have the love of our Lord wrapped around us every day. He’s there to protect us. Now He hasn’t promised that we won’t have bumps, bruises or falls, but He has promised that we won’t be lost and broken in the process. He will be there with His love. His never ending love will shield and guide us safely on our journey.
National Bubblewrap Appreciation Day may come just once a year on January 30. But your Appreciation Day for God’s love can come every day. He welcomes you into His arms gladly and freely. Thank Him daily for surrounding you with His blanket of love. Read Psalm 121:7-8, and remember: God loves you unconditionally!
