The Call of the Grandchildren . . .

It was just about a week ago that we traveled north. (I know, this is not the time of year to go north!) But you see we felt a strong call, we felt compelled to make this trip. And why, ah yes, the call of the grandchildren.
In Proverbs 17:6 we read, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged.” Amen to that!

In Connecticut, we have three grandkids – great kids who used to spend their whole summers with us. So many fun times, so many memories. Now we have to be content with texting, an occasional phone call, and some years a family reunion. They’re in high school with busy, happy lives. This March those busy lives included appearances by the two older ones in the high school musical. One would be a dance captain, the other a monkey. (Yes, that’s type casting!) We couldn’t help but remember all the little shows they used to put on for us in the summertime. Now their singing, dancing and performing were to be on a real stage. They were so excited and giving it their all!

Now how could a grandparent resist that? We love them, well actually we’re crazy about them. We love to hear their voices, to hug them, to listen to them. They’re the joy of our lives.

Thinking about this made me wonder about our heavenly Father. We know He loves us; sure, we repeat that often. But just maybe He’s actually crazy about us, maybe we’re the joy of His life! Wow!

Maybe He wants to spend more time with us. Maybe He’d like more than our “texting” the occasional prayer His way. Maybe He yearns to hear us. Maybe He hopes we will really want Him with us, right there beside us, every day.

Maybe He wants to watch us perform. Maybe He’d like to see us live our lives to the fullest, to give it our all, whatever that may mean. It may not be singing, dancing and acting on stage – but will we be using all of our talents to love each other, help each other, and support each other?

As Paul tells us in his letter to the Romans, God is our Abba Father, our dear Papa!

Your heavenly Father is watching. He wants to hear from you. He wants you to keep Him close. He’s really wants to see your best effort. If you mess up, He’s quick to forgive. If you succeed, He’s thrilled. And why? Because God loves you.  He loves you unconditionally!
