FedEx Message from God

You never know when or where you will hear from God. For me, it’s come through a dog’s wet nose on a night that might have been my last, through a mysterious driver who picked me up, hitchhiking before dawn and most recently at FedEx. A message from God, delivered at FedEx.

It had been a tough week, pulling together another workshop. We had worked hard to be sure it was tailored to our client, something which would engage them and change their behavior, something they would value. The timing of other commitments and travel left our final work to the last minute. It looked like another late night at the local FedEx Office finishing and printing the materials. But, while confirming their address online, I noticed they closed at 10 pm! They’ve been open 24 hours all the years we’ve used them. Panic set in. How could we get this done, printed and ready to go by morning?

We “flew” to FedEx, divided the remaining work, edited and printed as fast as we could but realized our final big print job could not be completed before closing. We pleaded with the employee, one we’d worked with through the night in years past. She recalled those times and agreed to run the final job overnight for a 7 am pickup when the office opened. The rush made us nervous and less prepared than we liked.

We finished the rest of our planning and got a few hours sleep before it was time to go back, pick up the printing, and head to the workshop. We were tired, out of routine, off our pace and concerned. Not a good combination — no way to start a workshop. We learned other logistical and administrative items had also fallen through the cracks and had to figure out workarounds. More worry.

The print job was ready and looked good. The morning employee, L’Tanya, was one we had never worked with before. We related the prior night’s story. She commiserated and when we were leaving said, “The Lord bless your work today, bless your clients and your safe travels home to your families,” smiled, told us goodbye and went back to work. My worries disappeared. Immediately. They just dropped and were gone. I felt well and truly blessed. At the car, my business partner announced the Spirit was moving and we were blessed today. She felt it, too.

The Greek word for messenger shares the same root as our word, angel. Angels are God’s messengers. That morning, in the FedEx parking lot, I wondered, “If I turn back around will that person be there? Was L’Tanya, the one who delivered that message from God, “just a person?” She surely blessed our entire day.

Read Numbers 6:24-26. May the God who loves you unconditionally bless you today and call you to bless and be a blessing to others.

Mike
