A.M.

I am most definitely a morning person. So much hope, promise, energy, coffee, time with God. I think better in the a.m. As the day wears on, I get wearier. I don’t nap well, so when 3 p.m. rolls around, I lean back and catch about five minutes of eyes closed, meditative rest. But boy, give me the morning seven days a week and twice on Sunday!

As our two favorite friends, “Hustle” and Bustle” start to work their mischief, pulling us further away from our center (God), we can rest assured that He is working in us and for us on a parallel path. When we find ourselves asking in exasperated tone, “Why?!”, remember that Jesus himself also asked that – with every ounce of strength and breath he could muster from the cross. So it IS okay to blurt that out! Your faith is not in jeopardy, or your safe-keeping in God’s hands. God provides even – especially – in the here and now.

I am well aware that it is hard for some people to just get their day going physically. Yet, it is hard for me to conceive of the unwillingness to be open to God’s wondrous possibilities for the day. I wish I could be in every kitchen, encouraging everyone to love God in the morning. Cling to His faithfulness and sustenance. Savor the present of the present. The “why” will be taken care of by God’s “how”. Understanding that God’s perfect will is for the redemption of all living things will help you to win the daily battles of psyche and body.

Love Him in the morning, for He cares for you with an unconditional love.
