“Snapchats” with God

I seem to have Facebook pretty much figured out. It’s taken me what, nine years? But when it comes to Instagram and Snapchat, I leave that to the younger generations! Snapchat, as near as I can tell, is making funny pictures of yourself and sending them to friends with a little message or descriptor.

I think that in the course of each day, that’s how we could describe our time with God – “snapchats.” Kind of like texting a friend. We don’t need the immediate response so much. We just want to keep in touch, stay connected. Maybe if we had the same mindset, the same frequency of our time with God that we do with our “electronic leashes” (cellphones), we could enjoy a closer walk with our Heavenly Father. It’s a privilege, getting to spend time with the maker of all things. We don’t even need a saint or a priest interceding for us; just the automatic presence of the Holy Spirit. No calendar entry (although sometimes that helps as a reminder to pray!), no appointment necessary. That same God-given Spirit speaks to us through the Word, both printed in Scripture and embodied in Christ. Reminders and “God-winks” are always “snap-chatting” with us – a Bible verse that is oh-so on-time; a nearby conversation about Jesus or the church; a loving emoji from someone we care about. And if you don’t know what an “emoji” is, you need to figure out your cellphone! JK! (just kidding).

Read Hebrews 4:16. May you see and hear God’s voice “snap-chatting” you. May you always be reminded that He loves you unconditionally.
