At the very beginning of Creation, Genesis says there was water. On the third day, God brought forth the dry land and vegetation to grow. On day 5, He brought forth all the living things from the sea. Water brings life and there is no life without it.
When tremendous evil was prevalent throughout His creation, God chose Noah and His family who were faithful. He cleansed His creation of evil with a great flood, allowing that same water to carry Noah and his family safely in the ark. When it was safe, an olive branch brought back to the ark by the dove showed that water had cleansed the earth of evil.
As time passed the scriptures show that God’s chosen people, the Israelites, were delivered to the Promised Land by passing through the water of the Red Sea. They were taken from the old life into a new life with God.
Years later Jesus met a Samaritan woman at the well. He explained that He was the living water from heaven and that this water gives eternal life. Jesus is Gods living water come down from heaven.
To everyone who turns from sin, baptism is a symbol of this. As Christians we believe that we are saved by God’s grace. The baptismal water has always symbolized this new birth. Baptism takes away the sinful nature passed on to us through Adam and delivers us into the family of God. We are sealed by God’s Holy Spirit until the day of redemption.
From the beginning of time water has cleansed, it has permitted growth, it has led to new life. You too are blessed with God’s precious gift of water. He wants to cleanse you, to see you grow, to lead you daily to a His new life. Why? Because He loves you, He loves you unconditionally.

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
