What do we call Him?

I drove up to the kindergarten pickup area, where my granddaughter waited with a staff member. I jumped out of the car and walked towards them, announcing that I was here to pick up Maggie. The staff member cautiously  turned to my five year old and asked, “Do you know this lady’s name?”  Now I commend the school for their vigilance in protecting the children in their care, but this question presented a problem. I could see the confusion in little Maggie’s eyes. What should she say? She didn’t know my “name”. And I could see the concern on the staff member’s part, as she hesitated. I didn’t want to upset their little system, but finally I looked at Maggie and asked quietly, “What do you call me?” Immediately she gave her shy and sweet little answer – “Grammy”. Problem solved, permission granted, and off we went.

The great Almighty God, King of All Creation, makes such an offer to us!  Just call me Father, Abba, Daddy.  We are welcome to come to Him just as easily as we approached our earthly Daddy when we were but a child.  There’s a lot of love in the name Grammy spoken by a little girl.  There’s a lot of love in the name Abba Father spoken by a child of God.  There’s a close bond in these names, a tender devoted togetherness.

What’s even more wonderful – our Father knows our name. In His warm and caring way He calls each of us by our name. Now that’s really awesome!

You too can come to your benevolent Father with the closeness of reaching out to Daddy. You too can be assured that your Loving God knows your name. You too can know that He loves YOU personally and unconditionally.
