Raw Eggs and Lemons . . .

OK, I hear you saying “yuck!”  Well, if that doesn’t sound too good, how about I offer you a nice bowl of dry white flour instead? Maybe you’d like to nibble on a stick of butter? Or, did you ever taste baking powder? Not good.

Well, you’re getting the picture. Mix all these ingredients together and put them in the oven. Aha! It’s a miracle – we have a tasty cake!

Perhaps there are some similarities with our life as a congregation. Each of us is a unique individual with a name all our own. Our appearance is distinct and our personalities differ. Our talents vary and our strengths are diverse. We may even have divergent views. On our own we are each a Christian, each a beautiful child of God. But individually we are not “the church,” any more than a spoon of baking powder is a cake.

So, put us all together – let all of our individual talents merge into one body. And then, interesting thought, put us into the oven? Well, maybe. Sometimes our togetherness is best realized after we have “taken the heat” together. We sometimes have to work through our common problems, work towards joint decisions, listen to each other, support each other, forgive each other. And the result – well, let’s see what happens . . .

Our loving Father accepts each of us with his enduring love. Let’s seek His guidance, and let’s use His love to be the best that we can be here in this place, together.
Remember He loves YOU unconditionally.

Yum! Don’t like the oven part very much. But I can appreciate that it is a necessary part to become the end product. The reward is wonderful!
