My husband often tells me, “You could talk to anyone!” Admitting that fact, it was not too surprising that an article on “The Art of Conversation” caught my eye. I’ll summarize the Do’s and Don’ts;
Do: Listen before you speak. The art of conversation is not about talking, but about listening.
Do: Take turns. Conversation is a two-way street.
Don’t interrupt.
I’m listening, God. You have my attention . . .
It’s easy for me to talk to you, God, when I want to pray for my family and friends, when I am hurting and I want your peace, when I don’t think things are going my way . . .
But do I take the time to breathe in your Holy Spirit before I begin “the ask”?
Do I listen to your answers when I think I’ve already made up my mind?
Do I pause, meditate, and inhale your word, your advice, your love and allow it to reverberate in my soul?
Thank you, God, for reminding me today that prayer is a two-way conversation with you.
Listen, take turns, don’t interrupt . . .
