My husband wears hearing aids that really have improved his ability to hear. The only problem is, the batteries seem to go dead every time we are heading somewhere where hearing is essential. On the way to church, “beep” the batteries are going dead. On the way to a concert, “beep” the batteries are going dead. On the way to dinner with a group of friends, “beep” the batteries are going dead. Here’s where I confess – I am not very patient and understanding. Grrrrr. . .
I may have to repeat myself one or three times. I may have to tell him that the waitress wants to know what kind of salad dressing he wants. I may have to tell him the punchline of the joke. Grrrrr. . .
Are my batteries going dead?
Do I need a “God recharge” to remind me to “do onto others what you would like them to do onto you?” Do I need a “God recharge” to remind me of my vows to “honor my husband in sickness and health?” Do I need a “God recharge” to turn my lack of patience and understanding into compassion and thanksgiving and praise?
I guess I need new “batteries.”
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:1
“Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16
God loves us unconditionally.
