At age 9, I first noticed a girl. I was barely able to speak a word to her but when she left to change schools, I felt hurt. At 17, my first serious romance ended when she “dumped” me. It seemed like a knife wound to my heart, I felt doomed.
Time marched on. A close family member died unexpectedly. My heart ached, I wished for one last moment with them, remembering their laugh and the great times we shared.
When a sweet niece died, the heartbreak was overwhelming. She had accomplished an enormous amount of mission work in her short twenty years.
We’re human. When we feel heartbreak, we get angry. We ask “Why God, why?” Jesus understands our feelings!
He suffered the loss of His best friend and cousin John. He wept bitterly when His friend Lazarus died. When He suffered on that cruel cross, He cried out “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me.” And when His final hour had come, His friends abandoned Him.
So, when heartbreak comes to you, know that Jesus truly understands. He will walk with you through grief and tragedy. He will stay close. Remember, God loves YOU unconditionally.
