Take time . . .

When God gave the Ten Commandments and it came to Sabbath rest, His message was clear: “If creation didn’t crash when I rested, it won’t crash when you do!” *

Ah, we are so busy. We fill our calendars and days with things we just must do. We grow tired and weary, yet we feel we must push on. Maybe not. Maybe we just need to take time to rest. If our heavenly Father could take time off to rest, then surely the world will not crash and burn even though we take some time off – time to rest and renew.

So I look at my “schedule” in the light of the grand scheme of things, and my perspective changes. Yes we are each precious in God’s sight, but perhaps we sometimes overestimate our own importance. Just suppose I shorten that “to do” list for today. Aha, to paraphrase the Fiddler on the Roof, “Would it spoil some vast eternal plan?”

If the Creator of the Universe had time to rest, then I do too.

Quiet times of reverence may be some of the most beautiful moments of our day. Spending time with family and friends brings sharing, closeness and laughter. Time devoted to a favorite hobby breeds creativity and satisfaction. Time spent appreciating the wonders of nature often brings a sense of peacefulness. Our Lord wants us to experience peace and joy. These are gifts from His holy goodness.

Serve him with gladness, but take time to rest. The Lord who loves you unconditionally wants this for you.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

When and why did we Christians get so busy on the Sabbath?? Well written with wise thoughts. Even in retirement some of us are just too busy to think on God with thankfulness and appreciation!
