All our lives we have desires, sometimes healthy, sometimes not. We look at our lives and based on society’s standards, we determine whether we are doing well or not. Instead of being content with food, clothing and shelter, we want more. We forget that everything we have is a gift from our God. We perceive someone else as “better off”, and we strive to get what he has.
As Christians, we should know that the grass is not always greener on the other side. There is nothing wrong with using our talents to be successful. Nothing wrong with material wealth, as long as we remember it is a gift from God. Our mission is to do His will, to bring all those we can to the knowledge of His unconditional love.
We can follow Jesus example. He obeyed the Father and acted in unison with His Father’s will. We can learn not to envy others. We’ll find the grass is greenest where we stand, when we stand by His side and defend His teachings.
Remember earthly standards of rich and poor are not God’s standards. Indeed the richest among us are those whose lives most closely mimic Jesus’ love for neighbors.
In this world there will always be envy and a desire for more. Ah, but we are no longer “of this world” when we trust in Christ as Lord and Savior. Then we will have true contentment.
Remember God Loves Us Unconditionally!

Matthew 5:43-47 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?”
