Back in 1985 my wife and I lived at a co-op apartment complex in suburban New York. One Saturday my daughter, 8 at the time, asked if she could meet her friend outside and play. It was a normal routine.
After a couple hours my wife and I, who were busy with cleaning and chores, realized she was still out. So I “texted” her 1985 style by yelling out our window, “Nicole, where are you, you need to come in now for lunch!” No response was heard. Then I telephoned her friend’s mom who said that her daughter had been home for an hour already. Now we were starting to worry. We rounded up all our neighbors. That was the Amber Alert system in those days. We phoned everyone we could think of to help locate her. We prayed to God she was safe.
Well with lots of help, we found her about 3 hours later. She was at my mom’s house. She had gone over to help Grandma who was disabled with COPD. We brought her home after a severe scolding about not wandering out of our reach. We warned of the awful things that might have happened, in children’s terms of course. She was safe but we had “aged” in those three hours.
When I ponder that experience, it reminds me of Jesus parable about how the Good Shepherd leaves 99 sheep in His field and searches endlessly for one that’s lost. He came to save all those who are lost sinners and to lead them all back into their Fathers loving arms.
Today for all Christians, God indeed has issued His eternal “Amber Alert”. He has rallied Christians worldwide to go out into all the world, to present the Good News of Salvation, to bring lost souls back come to be with their Father forever. Amen?
Maranatha.
Remember God Loves You All unconditionally!
