Lent is a journey, a journey to Gethsemane . . .

For forty days we watch. We watch the story of His great sacrifice unfold. We watch His humility. We watch His love, a love beyond our human understanding.

We look up, but we also look down. We look down deep within our hearts. We look at what we have done; we look at what we have not done. And we are engulfed with remorse.

Have mercy on us Lord. Look with mercy on your poor sinners. Lord teach us to walk in your ways.

For as we walk, we know you love us unconditionally.

Lent is a journey, a journey to Gethsemane . . .

“Go to dark Gethsemane, all who feel the tempter’s power;
your Redeemer’s conflict see, Watch with Him one bitter hour;
turn not from His griefs away; learn from Jesus Christ to pray.

Calvary’s mournful mountain climb; there, adoring at His feet,
mark that miracle of time, God’s own sacrifice complete.
“It is finished!” here Him cry; learn from Jesus Christ to die.”*
