For forty days we repent. We seek cleansing for our sinful selves. We seek cleansing through the blood of Jesus.
We are helpless. We are unworthy. We bring nothing to the cross. We cannot atone for our sin. And so we cling to the only one who can. We cling to Jesus, our Savior, our Rock.
We ask Him to wash us. We ask Him to cleanse us. We ask for His grace.
We repent because we know He loves us unconditionally.
Lent is a journey, a journey of repentance. . .
“Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood, from thy riven side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure; cleanse me from its guilt and power.
Nothing in my hand I bring; simply to thy cross I cling.
Naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.”*
