Rocky Soil

As a blue collar worker who had to dig up broken water pipes in a small NY village, I quickly learned that there were different types of soil in that Hudson Valley area. The soil was mainly sandy near the river, red clay in the lower elevations, and hard rock in the upper elevations. When a water break occurred in sandy soil, inevitably it wreaked havoc and devastation on the streets and foundations of homes. It had to be addressed quickly to avoid disastrous consequences. When dealing with water pipe breaks in red clay soil we had a little more time to solve the problem. In the rocky areas we had even more time.

When we had pipe breaks in a rocky area the work was hard, but once you reached the broken pipe you didn’t sink in the mud and mire. Your goal of repair and restoration was completed more easily because you could stand firmly on the solid rock. Services were restored to the citizens of my good village faster than in the areas that had the unstable soil.

This makes me think of my faith in Jesus. When I stray into areas of questionable activities, like that sandy or red clay soil, I find myself sinking fast.  I “Cry Out To Jesus” as a popular song today touts. For in all I do, He is my firm foundation. He is that Solid Rock we can count on to accomplish our life’s mission of restoring as many as we can to a right relationship with God.

Remember God Loves You Unconditionally!
