On rare occasions – stolen moments, if you will – I reflect on life. I reflect on us human creatures, who are wonderfully made in the image of God. I reflect on all the automatic processes that we engage in every second of every day. Our functioning is nothing but miraculous. I reflect on those who are unable to walk at will, breathe normally, engage their senses, think rationally.
When we lose our ability to do things we take for granted, do automatically, everything changes. Our world is shattered. Whatever used to be normal, whatever we used to be intuitively grateful for, is gone.
Reflect on the wisdom literature of the Bible. Engage your senses, your whole being in the story of Job. The character profiles of the Old Testament bring us closer to who we are as human creations. Do not resist the holy fear that may catch your breath, leave you breathless as you internalize the awesome, wonderful, indescribable nature of a God who is intimately connected to us.
Rob time that you are certain you can’t possibly find to savor and soak in the amazing miracle that you are. It is essential, even if it isn’t as important or urgent as the pressing matters of busy routine.
Remember that God loves you unconditionally.
