I have been working on a knitting project since February. I have named it my “life time” project because it is taking me so long and moves so slowly. Small needles, tiny, thin yarn and hundreds of stitches equals slow knitting which needs attention to the details.
And then there are the mistakes! I have been trying to ignore them, but every time I look at the finished work another mistake jumps out at me. Sometimes the only solution is to pull out the stitches and repair the glaring (or not) mistakes. I have taken this action multiple times.
There is a similarity to the way I live with my own personal mistakes, my sins. At first, I try to ignore them and hope that they will go away on their own or that no one else will notice them. However, when they continue to appear and when they get bigger, too big to ignore, I must act.
In some circles, this is called “getting right with God.” It requires a recognition of the sin, a sincere decision to change or avoid the sin in the future, an honest request for forgiveness, and a recognition that Jesus came to save me. Sometimes, this can take place very quickly, within seconds of the event, such as a loud, inappropriate outburst while driving on SR 200.
Sometimes, I dig my heels in and resist the nudge that I can feel from the Holy Spirit. Well, He did give us free will after all! I usually then come to realize that the way I am being guided is by far the better way. And I surrender to a Power greater than myself.
Thank you, Dear Lord, for loving me, for sending Your son and giving me the Holy Spirit’s guidance at all hours of the day. Give me the willingness to follow that guidance in all aspects of my life.
Gentle Reader, I pray that you too remember, that God loves us unconditionally!
