1964

I was eleven years old when dad said “Let’s go to the World’s Fair.” We were ecstatic! The pictures we saw of it were tantalizing. The huge Unisphere was amazing. The futuristic predictions of what was to come were mind-boggling. Disney’s Carousel of Progress showed how much man had improved his condition since 1900. IBM had an exhibit on computers; you gave a date and the computer instantly told you what happened on that day in any year. Ah, and then there was the picture phone where you could actually talk to the person in another booth while seeing them. Could that ever really come to be???

Having lived long enough, I realize that a lot of what was predicted did indeed come true with various variations. But who could have predicted that those phenomenal room-sized computers would be reduced to the palm of our hands. Space travel and instant communications worldwide have exceeded their imaginations. The prophets of 1964 had it right much of the time, but they were unable to predict all that the next 50 years would bring.

It made me think of the Scriptures and all the great prophets of old: Isaiah, Daniel, Micah, and so many other major and minor prophets. With the coming of Jesus Christ, their prophecies came true, not just some of the time but 100%. They prophesied that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, be called a Nazarene, and come out of Egypt. They foretold Jesus’ birth, ministry, suffering, death, resurrection and second coming. They foretold it all, without a mistake!

This gives me an abundant faith in God Our Father and comfort knowing that He indeed does have a plan for our futures I am assured daily of His unconditional love.

Those predictions of our 1964 scientists and researchers at the World’s Fair paled in comparison to the successful predictions of God’s prophets in Scripture. I urge all to read them faithfully, and know that God Loves You Unconditionally!
