The Ants are Back!

What persistent little bugs ants are! I wrote about my battle with ants last summer. Each year, we (the ants and I) stake out a claim for the right to use the cottage kitchen without interference.

I am never sure who comes out the victor. Sometimes they disappear for days, only to be found in the sink chowing down on the remnants of a sweet treat left unguarded. Other times, they totally ignore any of my attempts to remove them from the vicinity and swarm without any fear of reprisal. I have carefully placed the ant buttons; the cucumber peels are shriveled and ready to be discarded. Still they appear like little moving black dots – everywhere!

So, what is my point? I wonder, if only we could be as diligent as the sugar ants are in seeking out the sweet nourishment that the Lord will provide at any time. He doesn’t try to eliminate us from that task. He encourages it. The single-mindedness of the ant world gives us a powerful example of perseverance in the face of adversity. A wonderful example with a satisfying result at the end of the journey.

Remember the determination of the ant and God’s unconditional love for you! One more observation: my husband says the ant is always the victor!

Proverbs 6:6-8   “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”
