Time to Make a Hair Appointment . . .

Eeks, egads — the white roots are showing. A female, still interested in coloring my hair, it is time to make that appointment and cover that gray hair.

My dear mother’s hair started turning gray at nineteen years of age. I never knew my mother to have anything but beautiful thick gray hair that with advanced age became glistening white. Hmm? I thought her hair to be beautiful and yet I rush to cover up my roots.

That’s when the Proverbs verse popped into my mind. Proverbs 16:31, “Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life.”

I was truly blessed to have a faith-filled upbringing by parents who set the example before me. In later years, my parents moved in with us; my father, living with us for two years, until his death and my mother for almost 17 years. What a blessing! Interesting that as my roots make their appearance I flashback to that infamous verse.

Very apparent to me was wisdom, my folks became smarter. Isn’t that amazing? Years ago they seemingly did not know very much, especially during my teenage years. Yet as they aged they became so wise! My mother was not the butt-in-ski type and never a negative addition to our home for my husband. She was however, graced with white hair from a godly life, AND pearls of wisdom that she lovingly shared for our benefit.

Your “crown of glory” may be hidden under a temporary dye, but it is well earned and a blessing. Embrace that, your godly life is still very apparent even in your later years. Your crown of glory (which may be brunette temporarily) is God’s touch as you traverse His ways. He loves you unconditionally even with white hair.
