I just came from the supermarket. I wanted some asparagus, but it was “old and tired.” Just a little too droopy to bring home for dinner.
So here I am, home in my cozy office. Come to think of it, my recliner, comfortable as it is, could also be described as “old and tired.” Let’s just say I wouldn’t want it out in the living room.
And then there’s me – some days I sure feel “old and tired”. Wilting and drooping like the not so fresh produce; tattered and worn like my lounge chair. Apparently “old and tired” is not usually such a good thing.
Maybe you too have heard the expression – “older than God!” – to describe something or someone that has been around for a really long time.
But here’s the rub – yes, God has been around for a long time – forever is indeed a long, long time! Yet God is not old and tired. What strength and power He has to hold the world in His hand, to watch over each and every one of us. Amazing, but God is never “too old and tired” to hear our heartfelt prayer. He’s never “too old and tired” to walk with us, even though the journey is long.
The prophet Isaiah says it so well:
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
No matter how “old and tired” you may be – your God is strong, He loves YOU, He loves you unconditionally.
