We know acronyms are like NASA, an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word. In this example it stands for: National Aeronautical Space Association. Sometimes having or using an acronym makes writing simpler, or shortens a dialogue.
We were instructed by Jesus to do just that very thing, to carry out His command of simplifying our faith. Luke 18:17, “Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” I’m guessing you, like me, would not need an acronym to help us remember such an easy request from Jesus, yet for some reason we stumble. Do you find yourself planning, discussing, agonizing, fretting, or delivering your requests in a learned format of formalities? Our dear Lord makes it so easy. Come to me with child-like faith.
Children believe, act and respond with simplicity. Their minds are not clogged with mortgages, finances, health concerns, or family issues; they simply trust. Can you empty your mind of your litany of “stuff” and make it simple? Enter your relationship with Christ with a picture in your mind. See yourself as perhaps a five year old, running to the lap of your Lord. Your arms out stretched to receive His hug and feel His love. No baggage. He’s got this! He knows YOU. He already knows your requests, wants, needs, financial concerns, health issues. You do not need to spell it out for Him. You don’t need to create an acronym to help Him remember you and your prayers. Children keep it simple. They just believe. He is asking the same of you. Allow yourself to visualize crawling into His lap and simply believing you are received, acknowledged, chosen, taken care of, loved. Ah, sheer bliss.
Trust like a child. He loves you unconditionally and holds you in the palm of His hand. When your mind pictures Jesus awaiting you, give yourself over to thanksgiving and praise. He embraces your faith and sees the truth of your spirit.
