Stop the Train!

As an avid fan of the I Love Lucy series, I can watch and rewatch those shows from years ago and still laugh. I can almost quote the next lines verbatim, I have watched them so often, but the joy never stops for me. I remember one episode, where Lucy, Ricky and of course the Mertz Duo are riding a train and through her antics, she is certain they need to STOP. Not only does she pull the Emergency Stop, but she does it several times incurring the wrath of the conductor. The scenes of spilled food and folks falling out of their compartment beds were quite funny.

Do you ever wish you could STOP your train of thoughts? Sometimes we allow ourselves to not only trudge in a valley, but we allow our thoughts to ride a train round and round in our mind. Are there benefits to thoughts riding the same track over and over in our mind? Yes, sometimes, revisiting thoughts clarifies an answer we have been deliberating, but more often the clackity clack of the “train of thoughts” is not helpful. Instead the train of thoughts circling round and round in your mind can be debilitating, not allowing us to see another perspective or perhaps to step away from our train of thoughts and clear our mind.

Philippians 4:8 KJV “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, … good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Stopping the train, visualizing yourself getting off the constant track of repetition, gives you God time. Thinking about what you know to be true and honest and good as the scripture suggests. God does not want our minds to be troubled and overwhelmed with thinking and rethinking, clackity, clack, over and over. He loves us unconditionally and wants His presence to fill our thoughts. Know that sometimes an emergency stop is necessary, just as Lucy presumed, so your mind can refocus, rethink, clear, empty, and visualize on “things that are true, honest and good.”
