Bread of Life

I’m just not that into fruit.

I know you probably get excited about the sweetness, the juiciness.

Biblical references to “the fruit of the Spirit” and “therefore bear fruit” and “every good tree bears good fruit” just don’t resonate with me the way “the bread of life” does.

Mention bread and I’m all over it!

In my head, I’m already smelling the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting into my senses.

I’m picturing five-grain whole wheat slices, Hawaiian sweet rolls, crunchy toasted bagels all smothered under a spread of sweet butter.

Mmmmmm . . .

Jesus is “the bread of life.” “Take this bread and you will not hunger.” Those are images that speak my language.

My carb starved body easily converts the bread of communion with God’s life-sustaining strength and faith to keep me strong all week long.

In fact, it reminds me of the bread of my youth . . .

The brand name was “Wonder Bread.” They advertised it “builds strong bodies eight ways.”

How fitting . . .

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” – John 6:35
