A New Season

Spring arrives on Wednesday. Our lawns may get a bit greener; we may plant flowers in our gardens; our short FL version of cool weather will be past. Year by year, the seasons will change. Of this we can be sure.

I’m reminded of the words from Ecclesiastes, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 The book of Ecclesiastes contains the thoughts of “the Philosopher”. We find reflections on how contradictory life is with its mysterious injustices and frustrations, as well as the gifts of God which are ours to enjoy.

Back in the late 1950’s Pete Seeger put these words to a song, “Turn, Turn, Turn.” And once again we see life with its ups and downs, its joys and sorrows. You may remember it well:

“To everything
Turn, turn, turn
There is a season
Turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under Heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep”*

You may be in a good spot today, feeling joyful and blessed. You may be feeling down today, overwhelmed by the burdens of your life. To “everything” there is a season. In every season of life our loving Lord walks with us, holds our hand, and gives us the strength to go on. In every season He loves us unconditionally.

Judy
