Plagues

As Passoverand Easter near us during Spring, I think back to when two of my step-grandchildren were in fourth and seventh grades. My step-daughter prepared the Seder meal and this time it was to be “kid-style.” That meant, the children would be participating in the Seder readings and some of the passages in the Haggadah were in Hebrew and/or English and written for children. What was present on the table besides the traditional Seder foods were plastic frogs, flies and other representations of the plagues in Egypt.  A sight to behold!

What “plagues” you? Do you have a chronic illness? Areyou plagued with worry? Does doubt assail you? Imagine the bombardment of never-ending locusts in your face, your home, and in the very air you are trying to breathe. Does your plague consume you?

Just as God during the Old Testament lifted the Israelites from the plagues of vermin and passed over their blood marked door posts, He can lift your plague or worries and woes. Our God wants us to repent of our sinful ways and lean on Him for His strength. He gave us His precious son,  Jesus, to lead us and even sacrificed Him to die for our sins. Healing and forgiveness await us in the sacrament of communion. Partake of His gifts. Feel His presence. As Easter renews the  resurrection spirit within us, may you accept His gifts and feel the plague that entraps you removed by His unconditional love.
