Childhood Memories

We were sooooo excited and a little bit nervous. My kindergarten class had practiced and practiced and now was our first time to sing in front of a church full of people. “Remember the words. Sing together. Don’t forget to smile.” We lined up on the altar steps.

Jeannie and I held hands, swinging in sync with the music. (Jeannie would later become my college roommate).

Greg couldn’t stop hopping and making me giggle. (Greg would later become the first boy to take me to a movie.)

Karen cried. (Karen would later become a mother of four.)

Mr. Dietrich raised his hands to direct us. (He would later become the influence that made me love music.)

And we sang . . .
“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong. They are weak and He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.”

I was smiling all over when we finished.
My heart felt different than it ever had before.

I believe that this was in this moment that I first knew Jesus. (Later to become my Lord and Savior).
HE met me in a children’s song.
