Awaiting the arrival of our second child, I was sketching the baby announcement I wanted to make and was praying for a Bible verse. I had “given” my first son a Bible verse before his arrival that I knew in my heart would apply to him and now was readying for child number two. After prayerful consideration, I felt led to use Isaiah 40:31, “But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.” (Good News Translation).
As Andrew, my second son, has come into manhood and established himself in business and with the loving companionship of his wife, I cannot keep from realizing how much this verse really exemplifies his life. He is an avid skeet shooter, who never tires of improving his skills on the circuit nationwide and he is also a workout-aholic, who enjoys challenging himself in workout events through icy water and mud and leaping over walls and a myriad of difficult obstacles. His soaring ability as he learns about life through his endeavors makes a mother proud. Revisiting and now applying his previously learned Sunday School lessons and his base from a faith-filled home is reinforcing a stronger foundation for his renewed adult strength.
Don’t you suppose that our God, who loves us unconditionally, has given us His holy word, the Bible, to do exactly the same thing? Find His words to apply to your daily living and lean on Him for the love, guidance, forgiveness and hope to become a repentant, loving follower of Him. We, too, can soar like an eagle when we are grounded in God’s word. Allow Him to strengthen your walk and keep you from weariness.
