“In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:6

These words of wisdom appear on the August page of my desk calendar. I’ll be seeing them every day this month. I thought it was worth a closer look at what they’re saying.

I found this simple version in the Bible translation called The Message. “Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.”

“Acknowledge” – listen for His voice, look for His continual support, not just some of the time but at all times and in all things.

Oh it’s so easy for me to feel independent. I’ll call on You Lord when I get in a tough spot, but for now things are going along fine. Yes Lord, I’m in control of the situation. I can handle this.

Did you ever have thoughts like these? Oh how our heavenly Father must chuckle over our misplaced confidence. Independent? In control? All set on our own? Whoa!

It’s such a human thing to do, but this endeavor to live independently of God leads to our ruin. God’s strength can be our strength; His compassion can be our compassion; His peace can be our peace. Why miss out on such blessings? Pray for his direction in all things.

Because of His unconditional love, it’s ours for the asking.
