Waiting for the Storm

It’s hurricane season here in Florida. I have managed to avoid being here during these tense time for almost 20 years. However, not this year. I am here and learning about being “hurricane ready.”

The thing about being ready for a big storm is that there is a lot of time. It doesn’t sneak up on you. Currently, forecasters have been tracking this storm for over a week. Now, residents are being urged to get in provisions, including propane tanks and bottled water, batteries and first aid items. And don’t forget to batten down the hatches. Move your patio furniture and plants for safe keeping.

The waiting and wondering can be trying and fearful. It is a time for constant contact with a strong and dependable anchor. One that won’t blow away with the first big wave or gust of wind.

We know who that anchor is. Our loving God who harbors us with His unconditional love. This safe harbor may get buffeted with the vagaries of the tempest but it will withstand the onslaught. This Rock is always there and is our salvation.

Read Psalm 18:2 and hang on to the Rock!
