Recorded in 1962, by Ernie Maresca, the song, “Shout, Shout, Knock Yourself Out,” was in the rock n’ roll era. The lyrics continue with “…come on yell, yell, loud and swell. You gotta’ scream…” Personally, screaming and yelling are not part of my demeanor, well, except for when the frog jumped out of my bathroom drain while I was brushing my teeth. Lol
When the Lord was speaking to Elijah at Horeb ( I Kings 19 : 11-12), a mighty wind came that was so strong it shattered rocks, but the Lord was not in the wind. Then an earthquake came and the Lord was not in the earthquake. Then a fire came and the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire came a still small voice came, a sound like a gentle whisper and it was the Lord.
Are you listening? Have you quieted yourself? After your prayers do you pause and wait or rush on to your next task, or drift into sleep land? Pause. Wait. Listen for the whisper. The Lord will speak to you if you allow Him.
Instead of shouting and knocking yourself out, be still. God will make Himself known to you, sometimes even in a still, small voice, a mere whisper.
He loves us unconditionally.
Jill
Be still and wait, so wise, oftentimes so very difficult to put into practice. I KNOW this is the way to go, thank you Jill for this reminder. So much busyness fills our days, I picture myself sitting in a corner with HIS arms wrapped around me as I ponder HIM and attempt to be in HIS peace.
Thank you
