I have a grandfather I never knew. He died a decade before I was born. I was never particularly curious about him until I delved into genealogy. For the most part, no one in the family talked about him. I found a few snippets about him in local newspapers, but still he is a stranger to me. I traced my ancestry through this gentleman back four more generations to 1740 in “Rheinland, Prussia. Yet, I still don’t really “know him.”
It’s quite possible to relate to Jesus in this way. He died years ago. Perhaps our family didn’t talk about Him. We can read about the generations before and after Jesus. We can know all “about” Him. We can learn the facts, memorize some Bible verses, even attend church regularly. We can substitute “religion” for a real relationship with Jesus. It’s only when we welcome Him into our heart, feel His presence in and around us, then we begin to truly “know” Him.
Jesus is a person. To know Him, we enter into a relationship. We surrender to His plan for our life. He is so vast and complex, no human being can fully know everything “about” Him. But we can seek Him, and enjoy His fellowship. We can bask in the unconditional love He gives so freely.
The chorus to this Worship Song by Robin Mark, shares the message so well.
