The Christian “Namaskar” – Christ in Me Salutes the Christ in You

Namaskar in Hindu culture can be described as: “on the level of life energy, there is giving.” (One makes himself into an offering to the other person being greeted with prayerful hands. It is a symbol of giving of the self.)

As a Christian what is this Namaskar I asked myself? When I am in conscious contact with God, the Christ in me is able to greet the Christ in you. We meet spirit to spirit, not just person to person. Only in this state of conscious contact with our Lord do we enter this state of giving of our self to the other person. Thus all judgements stop. I don’t like or dislike you anymore. You don’t irritate me anymore (in my human forgetfulness). In meditative contact with Christ, I love you as a precious child of God as our Lord asked us to love one another. In spirit of Christ, likes and dislikes become mild, not strong, because we are able to honor and recognize the Christ in one other.

When a person with Alzheimer’s is approached with the Namaskar- spirit of Christ, in prayerful conscious contact; there is no intellectual disability- there is only ‘oneness’. It is very powerful truth. Spiritual oneness or conscious contact with our Lord alleviates anxiety, fearfulness, or intellectual judgements. There is calm and giving up of self. This is probably why Alzheimer’s people find healing joy and contact normally lost to them, through music. When my spirit expresses itself in song and music through Namaskar there is “peace like a river” and I greet you dear Christian as spirit to spirit in our Lord. Holy Spirit through song and music is of Him.

When Pastor preaches a sermon to us he greets us spirit to spirit; soul to soul. When we come to worship consciously meditating upon our Lord we are in a state of love and giving. We seek Him in worship. In this state of being we receive and become part of the gift of the vine of Christ, to become one with Him in our congregation, to receive newness of life. Thus the heart of Christ makes itself known to us when we receive Him and share Him spirit to spirit, as this is the gift of His unconditional love to us, His precious children.

Therefore, I greet you today on this blog with Namaskar dear reader; the Christ in me extends love and salutes the Christ in you. Peace of the Lord!

As Jesus spoke: “I tell you for certain that before you can get into God’s kingdom, you must be born not only by water, but by the Spirit. Humans give life to their children. Yet only God’s Spirit can change you into a child of God. “ John 3:5-6
