Before there was written language, stories were told and passed down through generations. People shared news of events as they passed along well traveled roads. They told of happenings, events, births, deaths, tragedies and shared life through conversation. Many days, months even years may have passed but the stories were told and retold. With no front-page newspaper pictures, with no real-time television broadcast of the events, without Facebook and social media to snap it into nano-second vision, thestories were understood and seen with the “mind’s eye.”
Jesus taught the rules of life, the way to live, the future with our Heavenly Father, in parables. Webster defines a parable as: “a usually short fictitious story that illustrates a moral attitude or a religious principle; also, something (such as a news story or a series of real events) likened to a parable inproviding an instructive example or lesson.” Without a smartphone to flash a photo in front of the viewers or a remote to click the images, His stories were told so the listeners could imagine. So, they could allow their minds to “picture” His meanings.
Close your eyes. Can you see God? Can you feel God’s unconditional love for you? The Bible tells us, “….underneath are His everlasting arms.” Can you visualizeyourself in the palm of God’s hands, being held, comforted?
May your heart feel, your mind seeand your love grow through the images implanted into your being from God and His Holy Word.
