Brief Encounter with Double Lesson

When you read John 9: 1-12, the story of the blind man whom Jesus healed, those few verses hold a wealth of knowledge and some lessons for us.

The passersby notice Jesus approaching a blind man, who has been blind since birth.  Their question is our first lesson. They are wondering if he sinned or his father sinned and therefore, the man was made blind. Jesus admonishes them that the man is not blind because of sinning but rather so the works of God could show up in him. Jesus spits into the dirt creating mud and applies the mud to the blind man’s eyes.  He tells him to go wash off in the nearby pool. The second lesson is that this wasn’t an instant healing, but rather one that required action on the part of the man. Did he believe the mud pack from Jesus would heal him? He must participate first and walk to the pool.

Don’t worry yourself with the “whys” of your situation. Why has this happened to you?  How did it happen?  God may do a mighty work in you, but perhaps you will be required to ACT.  Step out in faith.  God loves you unconditionally.  Trust in the Lord.
