Tote that Barge, Lift that Bale

Are you lifting weights? Are you lifting heavy furniture?

Are you lifting others in prayer? Are you lifting high the cross as a beloved hymn suggests?

Ol’ Man River, the ballad from Show Boat, uses these words:

“…Body all aching, And wracked with pain, Tote that barge
Lift that bale, Get a little drunk, And you land in jail.
I gets weary, Sick of trying,  I’m tired of living
Feared of dying,  But ol’ man river  He’s rolling along…”

So, are you weary? Afraid of dying? Knowing the peace and comfort from our God and His unconditional love for you, will power you to lift your weariness, to fight fears and know that the barge you seem to be drudging along on is not God’s plan for you. Look to the Holy Spirit for a “lift” and reminder that feeling worn down and weary is where you can witness Jesus’ love in abundance.  Allow Him to shine through your weaknesses and be your Light of comfort, peace, reconciliation, grace, and forgiveness.  May your bale be lightened and your barge carry you to His love.
